Potty training your iheartteacups puppy can be
challenging. With busy work schedules,
and your rambunctious little addition, this can be an area of stress for
sure. Fear not!! Iheartteacups is here.
One thing that one must keep in mind when training
their teacup is, you’re dealing with a toddler. Think of your little princess
or prince as a child. They can be stubborn, and consistence is the key to
success. Crate training is the method that we, at iHeartTeacups, recommend.
There are the basics that we’ve all heard. Make
sure you take your puppy outside every 45 min and bring him or her to the same
spot on the grass. Watch for signs that they are ready to go.
If they suddenly change their behavior from playing
or relaxing to circling and sniffing around, chances are they are looking for a
prime place to relieve themselves. Intercept them and bring them outside to
their favorite place. This method does work. The problem is, you work too! You
leave the house to run errands.
You have a date night set up with your sweetie and
the exclusive club he’s taking you to afterwards frown upon bringing your
teacup on the dance floor, fun as that sounds. That’s why iheartteacups always recommends the crate training method. A
wonderful thing to be aware of is dogs, yorkies especially, love to seek out
the most comfy cozy place they can find and turn it into a luxurious place of
refuge and relaxation. Whether or not this spot is their blanketed crate or
your finely knit cashmere sweater is up to you.
I know if I leave something on the ground, whether
it be a hat or down jacket, two seconds later it’s been converted into my
little yorkie’s personal California king.
This little tidbit of information is vital. When you’re not home, your
tiny iheartteacups puppy should be put in their crate, or in a gated corner of
the room, with the area divided up into two sections.
On one side they have their fluffy blankie, or your
finely knit cashmere sweater, and the other side is their wee wee pad or
newspaper. This newspaper is not for
reading, but for potty time! Your Iheartteacups pup will not go dee dee or woo
woo on their sleeping bag. They want to keep that nice and clean, because you
can’t be clean if you’re sleeping in feces. When you come home, you should give
them a “good girl”, or boy and take them outside to see if there’s anything
left in the tank.
This process will teach your teacup that wee wee
pad good, Mom’s new Turkish rug that she paid way too much for bad. Once your
teacup really has this down, you can place a wee wee pad down in the house, and
if you forget to take them out or miss a signal that they’re giving you,
they’ll go on the pad and do their thing.
When they’re not interacting with you, they should
be in their confined area even if you’re home. They like the security of being
in their special place. Make sure they have their water and toys in there too. It’s
really about covering your own butt so you don’t stress about theirs.
